Muscles of the abdomen

Tomorrow [Wednesday 10th Dec] is week 2 or 3 of their first peer case study for most of the group. It will be a practical massage session, though I will feedback during the afternoon to individuals with regards the recent written assessment paper.
This means of course some of you will complete your first case study before the holidays....giving you plenty of time to write up your reports!

Tanya

I have checked with regards your query on the data protection act and the use of pc's. The most straight forward comment is that the data protection very much came into being because of pc's. So what you have learned in your previous courses will be the relevant information.

A very big welcome to the HNC Beauty class of 2008/09.

A very talkative group with many hidden talents I'm sure, and one I have great hopes will use this blog which is purely for them. Why don't you start by giving your comments/suggestions what you would like to use the blog for?

Wednesday lesson
I plan to give a handout this week on body massage case studies giving guidance on the information needed within their case study reports. I had hoped to be able to attach the handout to this blog but wasn't able to, so sorry you will need to wait until Wednesday.

Don't forget to hand in your assignment !!

Self Reflection

Thought you might like to try this exercise on 'self reflection' I found in a Vitality beauty magazine article. The author suggest it is good practice to take time out to reflect. The process being one of unravelling what you have done, analysing it, evaluating and making some plans and strategies to move forward.

It may well be that once you have done this process you are quite content with where you are and what you are doing, in which case this will boost your confidence and provide motivation to continue to reach your goals!

Here are the questions to ask yourself

  • what happened?

  • what would I change and why?

  • what action could I take to make these changes?

  • did it work?

  • if yes, what have I learnt by this incident/experience?

  • if it didn't work, what route should I take next?

Reflect in a constructive way, if you don't how will you learn from your successes and mistakes. An ideal way of doing this of course is to write down your thoughts and use a blog as your reflective journal/diary

26th May

Well mostly we seem to be on course to get through all the assessments before the last week of term.

A reminder the HND 1st year course team meeting is Monday 9th June 4.00pm. Remember this is your opportunity to suggest any changes you feel would improve the first year of our HND. Any thoughts, comments are welcome.

I have arranged for Robin to come in for an hour next Monday to give you an input on advanced massage techniques, which I am sure you will find interesting and enjoy.

What else would you like me to try to squeeze in before we finish for the summer?

Body Massage Case Studies

Hi everyone

I was wondering if you could give me an idea of when you will have completed your first case study and home study client ?
Also you must let me know when you plan to have your home case study into college, to ensure I am aware in order to practically assess you.

Remember next Monday 5th May is a bank holiday!

Scottish Beauty Exhibition

The Scottish Beauty Exhibition is taking place on Sunday 11th May at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh.
There will be around 200 exhibitors form skincare companies to nails, tanning and lots of complementary therapies too. There are also seminars and workshops you can book to attend during the day.
It is the only professional beauty event of its kind in Scotland this year, so it's not too be missed!

Let me know if you would fancy going to this event? We can then get you registered for free tickets.

Professional association

Hi everyone

I have added the Babtac email address to the blogroll, in case any of you were doing treatments at home and were wondering where you could get insurance. They have special rates for students, especially to cover case studies etc.

Of course this is not the only thing Babtac are involved in. They are a professional association which provides advice, a regular magazine to their members full of updates on our industry, you can be registered with them and they will provide your name to members of the public who perhaps are looking for a therapist in their area.

Its worth having a look on the website http://www.babtac.com/

Start of block 3

Well girls, it is the start of the last block in your first year of studies. Can you believe it, only 12 weeks to go.

Do you think it has gone fast your year so far, or a bit of a drag? Please let me know what you think.

Dermalogica Training Workshop

Wendy checked with Dermalogica to ask if there were any extra places available for the training workshop on the 13th March at their Glasgow school, unfortunately they said at the present moment there weren't any, but would keep us in mind.

Perhaps as we discussed, if anyone at the last minute can't go could try to get in touch with other members of the group and see if they could go instead.
Remember to wear your uniform on the day!

Semi-permanent make-up on 26/02/08

Semi- permanent make-up demonstration on Tuesday

If you are interested in seeing how semi-permanent make-up is carried out then after your class on Tuesday afternoon you could come along and watch Kathryn who specialises in this treatment. She will explain what is involved in the training and the standards required to practice in industry. Kathryn works freelance and is also based in a salon.

I'm sure she would be quite happy to answer any questions and give you hands on trial experience. The pictures of a before and after completed treatment above show you the difference this treatment can make.

18th February Body Massage

Hi
I hope you have had a chance to think about who you wish to have for your peer body massage case study.
It would be ideal if we start on Monday 18th February. Please bring the necessary case study documentation.
You will need to carry out a full consultation, body analysis etc prior to your treatment on the first occasion. We will go over in class exactly what is required in order to complete the case study.
Remember, you must not let your colleague down once the case study has started and have poor attendance, this will hinder your colleague's progress, which would be very unfair.

See you all on Monday

Hi Everyone

Welcome to the HND Beauty Therapy Year 1 blog.

Year 1 are now well into block two of their course and in the process of practical and written assessments, as always!. They are making good progress and are working hard to complete the required work for this block.

The aim of this blog, which is dedicated to the 1st year, is to encourage the group, and their tutors to discuss, to reflect, and hopefully to evaluate on the course and groups progress.

It may be used by your tutors to pass on information or a place for you to check on current topics and issues or deadlines for assignments perhaps!
We would hope if you have anything of interest for your course you could also use the blog to pass the information on to share with everyone.

Here's to the future.
