Well Done

Hi there

Well then, you have all managed to finish your body massage case studies!
It probably seems ages ago since you started them and wondered what exactly to put in your reports. But you have done it and I hope you have learned from the experience. Certainly some of you I felt were really starting to grasp the concept of evaluating your case study and adding some self reflection and others now know this is an area to work on for their next set of studies.

Well done to you all and hope you continue to enjoy massaging.

Muscles of the abdomen

Tomorrow [Wednesday 10th Dec] is week 2 or 3 of their first peer case study for most of the group. It will be a practical massage session, though I will feedback during the afternoon to individuals with regards the recent written assessment paper.
This means of course some of you will complete your first case study before the holidays....giving you plenty of time to write up your reports!

Tanya

I have checked with regards your query on the data protection act and the use of pc's. The most straight forward comment is that the data protection very much came into being because of pc's. So what you have learned in your previous courses will be the relevant information.

A very big welcome to the HNC Beauty class of 2008/09.

A very talkative group with many hidden talents I'm sure, and one I have great hopes will use this blog which is purely for them. Why don't you start by giving your comments/suggestions what you would like to use the blog for?

Wednesday lesson
I plan to give a handout this week on body massage case studies giving guidance on the information needed within their case study reports. I had hoped to be able to attach the handout to this blog but wasn't able to, so sorry you will need to wait until Wednesday.

Don't forget to hand in your assignment !!

Self Reflection

Thought you might like to try this exercise on 'self reflection' I found in a Vitality beauty magazine article. The author suggest it is good practice to take time out to reflect. The process being one of unravelling what you have done, analysing it, evaluating and making some plans and strategies to move forward.

It may well be that once you have done this process you are quite content with where you are and what you are doing, in which case this will boost your confidence and provide motivation to continue to reach your goals!

Here are the questions to ask yourself

  • what happened?

  • what would I change and why?

  • what action could I take to make these changes?

  • did it work?

  • if yes, what have I learnt by this incident/experience?

  • if it didn't work, what route should I take next?

Reflect in a constructive way, if you don't how will you learn from your successes and mistakes. An ideal way of doing this of course is to write down your thoughts and use a blog as your reflective journal/diary

26th May

Well mostly we seem to be on course to get through all the assessments before the last week of term.

A reminder the HND 1st year course team meeting is Monday 9th June 4.00pm. Remember this is your opportunity to suggest any changes you feel would improve the first year of our HND. Any thoughts, comments are welcome.

I have arranged for Robin to come in for an hour next Monday to give you an input on advanced massage techniques, which I am sure you will find interesting and enjoy.

What else would you like me to try to squeeze in before we finish for the summer?

this looks great Peggy

Hi Peggy

Love the new blog. I can see how it would be useful for staff and students in the future. I will keep having a nosey every now and then.
